Aboriginal Small Business Management
One year college certificate course

This program is offered in partnership with Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology and Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre. The two semester certificate program highlights small business management for Aboriginal people.
Interested individuals will experience an exceptional blend of academic content, practical training and advice through panel discussions, seminars and workshops focusing on planning, start up and future development of a successful small business.



Admission Requirements:

Are admitted based upon their degree of interest in starting a small business Grade 12 English, general, advanced, C or U
Grade 10 Math, general, advanced, applied or academic

Accounting Basics
This course is ideal for the individual who literally has been "thrown" into performing accounting tasks but doesn’t not have an accounting background. It is also ideal for candidates considering the entrepreneurial path providing a solid base and understanding of accounting.

This non-computer course is a great balance between theory and hands-on, practical work.

Admission and Requirements:

Participants must have a willingness to attend each class and ask questions to get the most from the instructor-lead series.

Business Plan Training
Individuals wishing to travel the entrepreneurial trail may benefit significantly from this six week course. The course objective: to assist with training and research to develop a business plan.

A solid business plan is required to seek financial assistance as well as provides direction for the business. Participants will complete all market research, data and financial analysis.

Admission Requirement:

Academic: Grade 12 or equivalent
Work experience review on an individual case by case basis in lieu of Grade 12
Must be 18 years of age or older with basic computer skills.

Course Outline and Information:

Each 5 day week consists of a three-day theoretical component with instructor lead classes and a two-day practical component to allow participants to work on completing their business plan.

Proposal Writing
Participants will learn the essential elements of a grant proposal and more importantly, will be coached on effective writing skills to support a successful proposal submission.

Proposal writing tips will be highlighted throughout the one day course with an emphasis on unwritten items that are not found in proposal guidelines or eligibility criteria.

Admission Requirements:

Good use and understanding of the English language
Notepad with pen/pencil [this is a manual course - no computers are used]

Understanding Financial Statements
This course is designed for the individual who needs to understand basic accounting in order to interpret financial statements. It is ideal for individuals who are accountable for public funds but are not accounting experts!

Basic terminology and normal account balances are covered.
Please note: No computers are used in this course.

Admission Requirements:

A sample of your organization's balance sheet, income statement or other financial statements for clarification.
